New York, 1928 is the setting for this chapter of the Sakura Taisen series, which takes place in Japan. You don’t take on the role of the valiant young Ichirou Oogami for the first time in the series; instead, you take on the part of his nephew, Shinjiro Taiga. The young guy is dispatched from Japan to serve in New York under the supervision of Ratchet Altair, the head of the local Kagekidan, also known as the New York Combat Revue, Star Division. This group of young females can pilot giant mechs and fight supernatural evil. It is up to our heroes to stop the evil that is about to be resurrected in New York in the form of a Japanese warlord from the middle ages.
The gameplay structure of Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love is identical to that of the other entries in the series. The gameplay is split up into two different modes: adventure and battle. During the adventure mode, you will explore the lower Manhattan area while interacting with various characters. You’ll need to decide between a few different courses of action or responses if you’re involved in a conversation or encounter. The level of affection your attractive female allies feel for you is directly proportional to those factors. You will find yourself in one of the six distinct endings, coupled with one of the six girls, depending on your decisions throughout the game. The tactical duels are fought on a three-dimensional battlefield, which you travel while controlling your battle mechs. You are equipped with a unique bar that permits you to carry out a predetermined number of actions. You can strike, defend, and conduct special attacks specific to each party member.
